ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Ilan Ossendryver is a well-known photojournalist who has lived in Israel for twenty years and has covered most of the major events that have taken place in Israel.

His photographs have appeared in major publications newspapers around the world such as:

The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, International Herald Tribune, Der Spiegal, The London Times, American Photo Magazine, The Independent, The South China Morning Post, Haaretz, Maariv, Yediot Aharonot, The Jerusalem Post, South African Star and many others.





Some of the events Ilan has covered:

  • Both airlifts of Ethiopian Jewry, 1984 and1991
  • Prime Minister Rabin's trip to Egypt, including meetings with President Mubarak and Chairman Yasir Arafat, 1993
  • The opening of the border between Israel and Jordan, 1994
  • The signing of the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan, and President Clinton's visit to Israel, 1994
  • The visit to Israel by former South African President, F.W. de Klerk, 1991

  • The release of Nelson Mandela from prison and his arrival in Soweto, South Africa, 1989
  • Life in Israel during the Gulf War, 1991
  • The arrival of Soviet Jewry in Israel
  • The Apartheid Era in South Africa

Ilan Ossendryver has written short stories about the Apartheid Era that are being used as educational resources in Europe and the Far East. He also developed, photographed for and maintains the website for the Israel Association for Ethiopian Jews. He created and maintains a website for the South African Jewish Community - Jewish Web South Africa.

He is currently living in South Africa where he works as a photographer and web designer.
